MC1059673 Microsoft Teams: Expanded and enhanced peripheral auto-association support for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) spaces Docking stations and webcams will now begin to appear in the Pro Management portal inventory device page, crowdsourced from the Teams desktop app. These peripherals can then be manually or automatically associated to BYOD rooms or bookable desks to automate and improve BYOD/Desk UX and provide admin insights into room UX quality.

BYOD auto association will begin to receive signals and auto-associate these new peripherals to BYOD rooms. This process automatically builds a full view of your inventory for you, including what peripherals are currently located in which BYOD rooms.

As a result, BYOD and Bookable Desks end user experiences will automatically activate for any user who plugs in a peripheral associated to a BYOD room or desk. These user experiences are designed to adapt the Teams desktop client to solve common user issues in rooms and desks, and includes but is not limited to the following features:

(Rooms) Auto-select Room AV peripherals so that users don't accidentally use their laptop speaker and mic in a meeting room.

(Rooms) Shared display mode to protect confidential information and present clean output without meeting controls or presenter's notes to the room display.

(Rooms) Speaker Attribution so transcript (and Microsoft 365 Copilot) know who is speaking in your meeting.

(Rooms) Disable voice isolation so others in the room can be heard.

(Rooms) Room Node in participant roster.

(Desks) Auto-book a desk upon peripheral plug in.

MC1081568 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: Automatically set work location by connecting to a Wi-Fi network Currently, users have to manually set their work location in Teams. After this feature rolls out, Teams can automatically update users' work location when their laptop connects to their organization's Wi-Fi network or peripherals. The feature can leverage the mapping between your building names and your Wi-Fi networks to set the work location of your users to the right building. It can also leverage mappings to specific peripherals, such as monitors. Teams uses the same policy to enable or disable automatic updates of work location for Wi-Fi and peripherals. Learn more: New-CsTeamsWorkLocationDetectionPolicy (MicrosoftTeamsPowerShell) | Microsoft Learn

Teams will not update the location of your users if they connect after their working hours (that they can configure in the Microsoft Outlook Calendar). Also, their work location will be cleared at the end of their working hours.
This feature allows you to map Wi-Fi networks and devices to buildings, which allows your users to have their work location automatically configured when they connect. This is a major improvement over the current experience which relies on end-users to manually set their work location. When this feature is configured and enabled, Teams can automatically update the work location of users who connect their laptop to your organization's Wi-Fi network or peripherals. MC1084635 (Updated) Event Updates visible in email Users will now understand that their event is being updated when receiving event related emails, when applicable. Users will now understand that their event is being updated when receiving event related emails, when applicable.

If the user has already RSVP'd to an event, and the organizer makes an update to the title, subject, or location, the email update will show "Event Updated" and the updated location (if applicable). Previously, the email update would show the event time and not explain that the event has been updated. This feature will not affect events that the user has not responded to and will not affect event updates where the organizer changes the time.

New Experience:

Old Experience: If an organizer updates the title, location, or description of an event that the user has already responded to, the email update will only display the event time.

MC1055554 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: The "Code snippets" feature for chats and channels will retire We will retire the code snippets feature for chats and channels from Microsoft Teams starting May 30, 2025 and ending June 16, 2025. We made this decision to streamline our development efforts and enhance the overall user experience by focusing on code blocks, which are faster and more efficient, allowing users (mainly developers) to create, edit, and share code directly in the compose box without needing a title. Code blocks offer almost all the features of code snippets, except for line numbers. We will be adding line numbers to code blocks in the coming months. Also, code blocks will soon be viewable on mobile devices, ensuring that users can access and collaborate on code from anywhere.

This message applies to Teams for Windows desktop. Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.

Users will no longer be able to create code snippets after the feature retires, but all previously sent code snippets will remain accessible in Teams. Users will not be able to create new code snippets after May 30, 2025.

MC1070182 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: CVI coordinates enables presenters to join Town hall via VTC devices Updated May 14, 2025: We have updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Coming soon for Microsoft Teams: Organizations that do not currently use Teams will be able to join and present in Teams town halls using their own video conferencing devices. Because we have incorporated Cloud Video Interop (CVI) capabilities into the event form, organizers can receive join codes for their tenant and share the codes to presenters, allowing them to easily join the event. This rollout ensures that all presenters can join the green room and can see and hear each other without any limitations. Only trusted CVI devices can join the session. After they join, a meeting organizer or co-organizer can promote the device from attendee to presenter, and then they can communicate with other presenters in the green room before the event starts.

September 26, 2025: By this date, all unlicensed accounts transition to read-only mode. Admins are advised to check after this date. Checking earlier can result in an incomplete status snapshot.

October 29, 2025: By this date, all unlicensed accounts are archived. Admins are advised to check after this date. Checking earlier can result in an incomplete status snapshot.

Timeline for accounts unlicensed after July 28, 2025

For accounts unlicensed after July 28, 2025, the account will be put into read-only mode on the 60th unlicensed day, and will be archived or moved to the recycle bin on the 93rd unlicensed day.

Example:

Unlicensed Date: October 1, 2025

Day 60: Nov 30, 2025. The account is placed in read-only mode.

Day 93: January 2, 2026: The account is archived. If the user is still active in Entra ID but the admin hasn't enabled billing, then this is also the date on which the account will begin the deprovisioning process.

Admins are encouraged to monitor account statuses based on these timelines to ensure compliance and take any necessary actions.

[When will this happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We began rolling out late January 2025 and expect to complete by late October 2025 (previously late March).
Updated June 6, 2025: Enforcement actions on unlicensed OneDrive accounts are ongoing. Please continue to monitor your Unlicensed OneDrive Account report, as all accounts listed will be subject to enforcement if no action is taken. To support more informed decision-making, we've introduced new and more granular reasons for why an account may appear unlicensed but and has not been deleted. This added detail should help you take the appropriate actions for each case and will be available in your Unlicensed OneDrive Accounts report no later than June 24th. In some cases, admin action is required to delete the accounts. The timeline for enforcement remains unchanged from our last update.

Enforcement began on January 27, 2025. The rollout has slowed to ensure a safe roll-out with sufficient time for admins to adjust. Admins should anticipate that it takes time for all unlicensed accounts to complete the enforcement process. The initial enforcement rollout will be complete by October 29, 2025.

Updated June 5, 2025: As a reminder from the post announced on October 31st, 2024, we will be retiring the Utility.SendEmail API on October 31st, 2025.

In addition, you are now able to identify usage of the API via the Purview audit logs in the admin center

As a tenant admin, navigate to the Microsoft Purview Portal available within the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Open Audit to search for activities.

Select a date range to run the audit search for (recommend running it for at least 90 days)

Put the following text, "SendEmailApiInvoked" into the "Activities - operation names" textbox and click search.

The request will be queued, and results will be available once processed.

Click on the results and review each of the items.

Use the UserAgent and ApplicationDisplayName to help identify the caller.

[NOTE:] If the ApplicationDisplayName = "Workflow" then the items will be unaffected by this API retirement but will follow the SharePoint 2013 Workflow retirement. MC836942 (Updated) Microsoft OneDrive: Update for unlicensed accounts To prepare for this change, admins can view a list of all the unlicensed OneDrive accounts in their tenant by going to the SharePoint admin center and navigating to Reports > OneDrive accounts (this page will be rolled out to admins between July 26, 2024 and August 16, 2024). This page will provide the number of unlicensed accounts and why the accounts are unlicensed. You may have unlicensed accounts in your tenant for four reasons:

Retention period - Account is no longer licensed but is still active because a retention period setting is keeping the account from being deleted.

Retention policy - Account is no longer licensed but is still active because a retention policy in Purview is keeping the account from being deleted.

Active user with no license - Account is active but is not licensed. This can happen if the license is removed but the user is not removed from Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).

Duplicate accounts - Account is a duplicate because a licensed user has multiple OneDrive accounts associated with them. Duplicate accounts (also known as non-primary accounts) may arise if a user has geographic move, if a user leaves and then rejoins an organization, or from other factors.

After you have taken inventory of your unlicensed accounts, we recommend that you take the following action before January 27, 2025.

Delete unlicensed accounts that you no longer wish to retain.

Set up billing for accounts that you wish to retain.

You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

*At this time, these changes do not apply to customers in Education tenants. An Education tenant is any tenant with more than 50% education licenses. Any tenant with fewer than 50% education licenses is considered commercial. However, for any education tenant, unlicensed OneDrive accounts consume pooled storage and can pose security and compliance risks. IT admins can view the unlicensed accounts on the OneDrive accounts page to identify unlicensed accounts and take action.
