MC1088172 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: New threaded conversation layout option for channels After this rollout, to use threaded channels, users can either create a new channel and select Layout > Threads, or channel owners can use Edit channel to convert an existing posts channel to a threads layout.

Benefits of threaded layout channels:

Provide a more collaborative layout for conversation in channels (no need to create a post to start a conversation)

Provide a way for users to have deeper conversations on sub-topics

Users can discuss multiple topics without disrupting the main conversation

Users can select Reply in thread to open the side pane and compose a message to start a thread on a sub-topic.

The Followed threads quick view shows users all the threads they're following across all channels in one place:

Admin controls

This setting will be ON by default, allowing users to create threaded channels, or convert existing Post reply channels to the threaded layout.

This setting can be applied to the whole organization, or just particular user groups.

You will be able to turn off threading. You can find the global org-wide setting in Teams admin center > Settings & policies > Teams and channels > Teams settings. The setting will be called Threaded layout in channels.

If users or channel owners turn off the setting, they will not be able to create new Threaded channels or convert channels to Threaded mode, but they will be able to continue using existing Threaded channels.

To set threaded layout in channels as a user policy, go to Teams admin center > Settings & policies > switch tabs at the top to Custom policies for users & groups, and then create a new policy where you can turn off Threaded layout in channels.

Note: Admin control will be coming for General Availability, but will not be available in Private or Public Preview.

After this rollout, to use threaded channels, users can either create a new channel and select Layout > Threads, or channel owners can use Edit channel to convert an existing posts channel to a threads layout.

MC922623 (Updated) Microsoft new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web: Changing how to disable/enable We're changing the CASMailbox -OWAEnabled parameter that enables or disables access to user mailboxes using Outlook for the web (formerly known as Outlook Web App or OWA) to block only Outlook for the web and to not affect the behavior of new Outlook for Windows.

You can manage new Outlook for Windows with the CASMailbox-OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policy.

You are receiving this message because our reporting indicates one or more users in your organization may be using the New Outlook for Windows.

Note: We will not change any existing value for the settings, but we will change which setting controls if the new Outlook for Windows is allowed for the user. Before this rollout, both CASMailbox-OWAEnabled and CASMailboxOneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policies are checked. After this rollout, we will remove the check for CASMailbox-OWAEnabled so you can have the chance to enable new Outlook and still disable Outlook for the web if desired.
Admins can follow the instructions in this support article to block access to Outlook for the web using Conditional Access. Blocking Outlook for the web using this policy has no impact on Outlook for Windows.

Once Outlook for the web is blocked, admins can set the CASMailbox policy -OWAEnabled to $true. This will have no impact on users' ability to access outlook for the web since the work was already done to block Outlook for the web with another policy.

MC1117814 (Updated) Microsoft Viva Engage | Email sender domain migration from @yammer.com to @engage.mail.microsoft Introduction

As part of the final phase of the Viva Engage rebranding, we're updating the email sender domains used for Viva Engage communications. This change ensures a consistent and secure brand experience across all surfaces and completes the transition from Yammer to Viva Engage.

This update was previously communicated in MC679739, "Yammer Rebranding to Viva Engage Domain Migration Update," in October 2023.

When this will happen

The email sender domain rollout will begin in mid to late August 2025 for U.S. tenants currently receiving messages from @yammer.com.

It will expand to EU tenants using @eu.yammer.com in early September. The entire rollout is expected to complete by the end of October 2025.

A fallback/coexistence period will be in place between August and the end of October, during which both the old and new domains will be supported. This will be managed via an internal experiment.
Updated July 28, 2025: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

The email sender domain rollout will begin in late August 2025 for U.S. and EU tenants currently receiving messages from @yammer.com and @eu.yammer.com respectively. The entire rollout is expected to complete by the end of October 2025.

A fallback/coexistence period will be in place between August and the end of October, during which both the old and new domains will be supported. This will be managed via an internal experiment. During this time, some users within a tenant may receive emails from the old domain while others receive them from the new domain.

MC677236 (Updated) Whiteboard: existing Azure board migration to ODB storage Updated February 13, 2025: Migration has now started.

As outlined in MC677236 (July 2024), Azure to OneDrive migration of existing Whiteboards has now started and will reach your tenant (if you haven't received it already) in the coming months, before June 2025. Complete details can be found in this support article: Migration of Whiteboards from Azure to OneDrive - Microsoft Support.

Action for admins: The migration affects only Microsoft Azure-based Whiteboards. If your tenant does not have any Azure Whiteboards, this migration does not impact you. Check if your tenant has Azure Whiteboards using this PowerShell cmdlet: - Get-WhiteboardsForTenant

Action item for users: Until the migration completes. When your tenant receives the migration code, users can trigger a migration by starting a Whiteboard session from a web browser by simply going to https://whiteboard.microsoft.com/ or by using a Whiteboard in their Teams meetings.

Whiteboard previously stored whiteboard files in Azure storage. In 2022, Whiteboard switched to OneDrive as the storage location for most newly created boards. We made a client-based migration available for your organization, which is currently rolling out gradually.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 117394.

[When this will happen]

The client-based migration experience started in December 2024 (previously July), and we expect to complete the migration by early June 2025.

MC695487 (Updated) Contact Unification across Outlook and Teams Updated May 7, 2025: We have updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Today, users can see Outlook contacts created with their Entra ID (AAD) account in Teams, but contacts created in Teams are not available in Outlook. To provide a consistent experience we are making changes to allow Teams contacts, created with a user's Entra ID (AAD) account, to be visible in Outlook as well.

Upcoming changes to contacts in Teams and Outlook:

Currently, Teams and Outlook maintain separate contact lists for enterprise users. Based on your feedback, we plan to introduce a unified contact experience, ensuring a consistent contacts experience across Outlook and Teams. In future, changes to contacts in users' organization (Entra ID) account in Teams will reflect in Outlook and vice versa.

What's Happened so far:

We have completed one round of migration of all Teams contacts to Outlook in January 2024.

As a result, users may see more contacts in Outlook, namely those created in Teams and potentially Skype for Business contacts (if enabled).

Existing Outlook contacts may also be enriched with additional details from corresponding Teams contacts.

Teams users can see Outlook contacts but cannot edit them inside Teams.

What's Coming:

Users will gradually upgrade to the new unified experience from December 2024. The new experience will be enabled for each user across all endpoints (Desktop, Mobile, Devices etc.) simultaneously. Once the new experience is enabled for a user, they will see same set of contacts in Outlook and Teams. Any change in Outlook will reflect in Teams and vice versa.

All Teams contact changes (creations and edits) made since January will be included in the unified store. During creations, a small set of users may see duplicate contacts in the unified store. To help users navigate the transition, category label 'Teams Conflict' will be applied to duplicate contacts. This label will help users see any conflicts (duplicates or inconsistencies) that need their attention.

[When this will happen:]

This activity is expected to be completed for all active users by June 2025 tentatively (previously April). Once this activity is complete, users will work with a single contact list across Teams and Outlook.
