MC709269 (Updated) Changes in file open behavior in classic Teams. The following changes will take effect:

All files in Shared channels will now open in browser instead of within Teams. This will ensure that you can access all the latest features and functionalities of the web app.

OneNote notebooks pinned to channels/chats or the Notes tab within channels will continue to open within Teams. However, OneNote files when launched from any other surface in Teams will open in browser. This is a temporary situation for a few weeks until we integrate latest file open behavior into the OneNote Teams app, at which point you can go back to working with these files within the Teams environment.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files that were not pinned using the latest respective Teams’ apps need to be re-pinned for edit ready experience. This will enable you to edit and co-author the files directly from the tab without switching to another app or browser.

For users on classic Teams version older than 1.6.00.34970, files in the above scenarios will open in read only mode.

Some Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files that are pinned as tabs on chats/channels using the "Make this as tab" feature will render in read-only mode due to the legacy viewer powering the experience. Users will be asked to re-pin those documents as tabs to get an edit-ready experience powered by the latest viewer app for a more secure experience.

Users think about which tasks they need to complete, such as creating a survey, inside Microsoft Teams. MC669735 (Updated) Rosters in Microsoft Planner Supporting Container Sensitivity Labels Updated November 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Customers will soon be able to apply container labels to rosters in Microsoft Planner. This is enabled directly in Planner by using Microsoft Graph APIs. When this feature is rolled out, the roster sensitivity labels can be set to respect the policy settings. If the tenant admin has made container labels mandatory and has set a default label, then the default label will be used for roster creation through Microsoft Loop client.

On the Loop client, if the default label is provided, it will be used as the roster's lable when creating the roster. The roster system will not allow the user to create an unlabeled roster or to un-label a previously labeled roster.

On the Microsoft Graph API, if a request is made and the label is not included, the request is rejected as the default label is not applied by the service. Users will need to ensure that a default label is provided when labels are mandatory so that roster creation does not fail.

Note: The container sensitivity label applied to a roster applies only to the information in Microsoft Planner and does not protect or encrypt the information when it syncs with the Loop client.

Scheduling, setting up, and managing an event is not a simple task. Which is why we allow co-organizer to be added to the event so they can work alongside or on behalf of the organizer. So far co-organizers were able to set up event theming, manage registration, meeting options, view reports and more but were not able to edit event details like title, date/time, description, event group; nor publish or cancel event. Now they can! Co-organizer can edit event details, publish, and cancel the event like the organizer can. MC688930 (Updated) Teams admin center: App centric management and changes to app permission policies App centric management introduces new admin settings to control who in the tenant can install Teams apps. First, admins can set a default value for new apps that are published to the Teams app store. Second, admins can manage apps for users, groups, or everyone in the organization. This feature replaces the existing app permission policies and provides admins with the ability to manage access to the app individually. The app permission policies for existing customers are migrated to maintain existing app availability in the tenant.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 151829

[When this will happen:]

This feature will gradually roll out across three major phases.

Phase 1 (from late November 2023 to early February 2024) affects the tenants that use only the Global app permission policy and have no custom app permission policies. The app status from the permission policy and tenant settings will be migrated to preserve the admin intent. The migration will not affect the end users and their ability to use the apps. Admins may see the Manage apps page in a read-only mode for a short time.

Phase 2 (more details coming soon as a follow up MC post) affects the tenants that use both global and custom app permission policies. This phase will let the admin choose to migrate to app centric management by following a migration process that will change the existing app permission policies to app assignments in the new app centric model. The admins will have the choice to modify the apps that are assigned using the custom permission policies to be accessible to groups, if they want.

Phase 3 (more details coming soon as a follow up MC post) applies to the tenants that skipped the migration in phase 1 or 2. These tenants will be migrated automatically in this phase.

MC709266 (Updated) Walkie Talkie: Generic Headset Support on Android Use any generic wired (USB-C and 3.5mm) headset for instant team communication on Android.

Frontline workers often need to instantly communicate with each other even when their phones are locked. We integrated Walkie Talkie in Teams with audio accessories partners to make this experience possible with the dedicated push-to-talk (PTT) button on headsets, which instantly brings up walkie talkie for clear and secure voice communication. In addition to select specialized headsets, we are excited to announce that Walkie Talkie in Teams will now work with any generic wired (USB-C and 3.5mm) headsets on Android devices.

As long as the generic headset has a control to play/pause media or to accept/decline calls, frontline workers can use that control to start and stop transmissions on walkie talkie. Frontline organizations will be able to easily start using walkie talkie with these lower-cost generic headsets.

MC714186 (Updated) Remove Custom Script setting in OneDrive and SharePoint web In the SharePoint admin center, there is a Custom Script setting that controls whether users can run custom scripts in OneDrive and SharePoint sites. This setting will be removed in March 2024.

By removing this setting, Administrators will no longer be able to control the default behavior on self-service created sites or personal sites. However, customers will still be able to temporarily enable the ability to run custom script by using PowerShell, as described in the articles mentioned below.

By removing this setting, administrators will no longer be able to add, modify or remove scripts. This will not impact the ability to execute existing scripts in OneDrive and SharePoint sites.

[When this will happen:]

This setting will be removed in March 2024.
Updated February 16, 2024: We have updated the content below with additional information for clarity. Thank you for your feedback.

There are changes happening to Custom script settings in March 2024.

The Custom Script setting, which determines if users can execute custom scripts on personal sites and self-service created sites will be removed.

This setting is currently located in the SharePoint Admin Center, under Settings -> Classic Settings.

A new PowerShell command, "DelayDenyAddAndCustomizePagesEnforcement", has been introduced. This command is available in the SharePoint Online Management Shell version 16.0.24524.12000, or above which allows delay of the change to custom script set on the Tenant until May 2024.

* False (default) - for site collections where administrators enabled the ability to add custom script, SharePoint will revoke that ability within 24 hours from the last time this setting was changed.

* True - All changes performed by administrators to custom script settings are preserved. When the value is set to true, a banner shows in the active sites list of the SharePoint admin center informing that changes to custom scripts are permanent.

Set-SPOTenant DelayDenyAddAndCustomizePagesEnforcement $True

Please be aware that the new PowerShell command will only be accessible until May 2024. Post that period, on SharePoint sites if administrators wish to continue using features that are only available when unmanaged custom scripts are permitted to run, they will need to re-enable the running of custom scripts every 24 hours. This option does not impact existing custom scripts.

The NoScriptSite setting will be configured to True for all existing SharePoint sites and OneDrive sites except for below mentioned sites templates.

BLANKINTERNETCONTAINER#0 = Classic Publishing Portal site

CMSPUBLISHING#0 = Publishing Site

BLANKINTERNET#0 = Publishing Site

GROUP#0 = Team site

APPCATALOG#0 = App Catalog

CSPCONTAINER#0 = CSP Container

The execution of existing scripts in OneDrive and SharePoint sites will remain unaffected.

There will not be an option to enable custom script on OneDrive sites once the delay set using DelayDenyAddAndCustomizePagesEnforcement ends in May 2024.

Customers will retain the ability to permit the execution of custom scripts on specific SharePoint sites using the Set-SPOSite <SiteURL> -DenyAddAndCustomizePages PowerShell command or from the Active sites page in the SharePoint Admin Center.

Any modifications made to a site will be automatically reverted to False status within 24 hours, unless the new PowerShell command “DelayDenyAddAndCustomizePagesEnforcement” is used prior to May 2024. After May, the 24 hour reversion will occur regardless of this setting.

[When this will happen:]

The Custom Script setting from SharePoint admin center will be removed in March 2024.

MC715431 Microsoft Teams: Limit Presenter Role Permissions Organizers who schedule meetings where attendees are presenters by default will now have a secured Microsoft Teams meetings experience. We are introducing a PowerShell, so admins can control the presenter role permissions in untrusted environments, such as EDU, where students assigned as presenters can remove other students from the meeting.

Key changes that apply to personal and work or school accounts excluding Microsoft Teams Rooms:

Disable attendee mics/cameras (hard mute) - Educators no longer need to worry about being muted by students in the classroom.

Enable single/all attendee mics/cameras - Educators no longer need to worry about students turning off their cameras or muting them during the meeting.

Change the roles of other participants - Stop other students from being able to present by converting them into an attendee.

Lower participants' hands (including 'lower all hands' from the participant roster in-meeting) - Stop other students from lowering other students' hands.

Remove participants - Stop other students from removing participants in the meeting.
