Microsoft is introducing a new feature in Microsoft 365 Copilot that allows users to generate audio overviews of Word documents, PDF files, and Teams meeting recordings stored in OneDrive. Imagine you have a stack of documents on your desk, and instead of reading through each one, you have a personal assistant who reads them for you and gives you a quick summary. This is similar to what the new audio overview feature does, but in a digital format.
This feature will be available on both web and mobile platforms, but you will need a Copilot license to use it. Starting in May 2025 for the web and July 2025 for mobile, users can select the Copilot icon in OneDrive and choose to generate an audio overview. This overview will play in a professional, succinct style by default, much like listening to a news summary on the radio. If you prefer a more detailed discussion, you can switch to a Podcast style, which is like having two people discuss the content in a more casual manner.
For mobile users, accessing this feature involves opening the OneDrive app, navigating to the desired document, and selecting the option to generate an audio overview. This feature will be available by default, so there's no need to enable it manually.
To manage who can use this feature in your organization, you can adjust settings in the Microsoft 365 Admin center or through Group Policy.
