It is strongly recommended that all organizations who have not migrated to Idle-Session Timeout and are still using Activity-Based Authentication Timeout migrate to Idle Session Timeout.

Idle Session Timeout is already available and provides the same functionality as Activity-Based Authentication Timeout with the benefit of allowing the configuration not only for Outlook on the web, but for a range of other Microsoft 365 web apps.

MC455516 (Updated) Automatic migration of legacy Office 365 Message Encryption to Microsoft Purview Message Encryption Updated June 30, 2023: After retirement, any encrypted mail sent to shared mailbox protected with Microsoft Purview Message Encryption will have a link that can open the mail in Outlook on the web. This provides an equivalent flow to open messages protected using Office 365 Message Encryption.

As a reminder, the following PowerShell cmdlet parameter will be retired in New/Set-Transport rule cmdlet:

-ApplyOME

-RemoveOME

Note: If you use the Exchange Admin Center to create/modify a mail flow rule, the action will fail with a message to indicate the above functions have been retired.

Microsoft Purview Message Encryption will replace and retire the legacy Office 365 Message Encryption (OME) in the Exchange admin center. If you don’t do anything, Microsoft will process all mail flow rules that currently applies OME protection to Microsoft Purview Message Encryption protection. With this change, recipients will receive a much more customizable notification mail.

Retirement of OMEv1 is coming in 2 phases

on June 30th OMEv1 mail flow rules become read-only or delete-only. No new rules or rule modifications will be allowed. These rules will be encrypt/decrypt with OMEv1

One Dec 31 the OME v1 mail flow rules will be fully retired. All the OMEv1 rules will be automatcially process as OMEv2

For customers who need an exception to do OMEv1 mail flow rule updates between June 30th and Dec 31st, open a support ticket to request the exception.

Finally, we recommend all customers that use OMEv1 to receive email into a shared mailbox we highly recommend requesting the exception. We are targeting to release additional changes in Q3CY23 that will improve the shared mailbox experience.

Updated January 2, 2024: We have updated the timing of this change below.

MC665936 (Updated) Device Management Changes for Microsoft Teams Android Devices Updated December 11, 2023: We have updated the content below for clarification. Thank you for your patience.

Earlier this year, the new Microsoft device ecosystem platform built on the Android Open-Source Project (AOSP) was announced delivering state-of-the art security, reliability, and manageability with Microsoft Intune. Microsoft Teams Android devices will be migrating to this platform. The first step in the migration is a firmware update to Microsoft Teams Android devices in 2024. The firmware update will move devices from Android device administrator to Android AOSP management.

[When this will happen:]

TAP will begin in Q1 of 2024.

Eligible Microsoft Teams Android devices will initially receive a manual firmware update in Teams Admin Center so IT admins can manually verify the migration on select devices.

Eventually, the firmware update for migration will be scheduled as an automatic firmware update in Teams Admin Center. This automatic firmware update can be deferred for up to 90 days from first availability.

MC679525 (Updated) End-to-end encrypted Meetings - 200 participants (Premium) Updated December 11, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for patience.

For meetings that require heightened confidentiality, end-to-end encryption (E2EE) is an extra layer of security that encrypts data at its origin and decrypts it at its destination. Only audio, video, and video-based screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted. Apps, avatars, reactions, chat, and Q&A are not end-to-end encrypted.

We had launched end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for meetings with 50 participants in February 2023. We are increasing the meeting size to 200 participants. We support:

One can schedule an end-to-end encrypted meeting from desktop (Windows and Mac) and mobile (iOS or Android).

To join an end-to-end encrypted meeting

One can join an end-to-end encrypted meeting from desktop (Windows or Mac) or mobile (iOS or Android) or Teams Room Device (Windows or Surface Hub).

For the 200-participant meeting, the first person joining should be from desktop (Windows or Mac) or mobile (iOS or Android).

MC686596 (Updated) Simpler and quicker creation of teams and channels Updated December 11, 2023: We have updated the content below with additional information. Thank you for your patience.

Collaborate more easily by creating teams and channels simpler and faster - a simple by default, power when needed experience!

Currently, our team and channel creation processes have several steps and are focused on letting users create team at the top level, with channel creation as an option for each team.

We are making the team create experience simpler by default, but still giving users the advanced options of creating a team from a template or group and choosing the privacy/ sensitivity of the team if they want. To help users create channels within these teams, we are putting "create channel" option at the top. They will be able to host the channel into a default team or a team they select.

Users can now create the right collab space by choosing between team or channel. Overall, users can now set up the right teams or channels from the + button, without having to go to different places or follow multiple steps.
