Details:
Due to recent infrastructure updates, some Copilot features in environments based in Australia, India, and the United Kingdom may now process data outside of those regions. Please refer to this documentation for more information about which regions this data is processed in: Regions involved with copilots and generative AI features.
As a result, we are re-introducing the Move Data Across Regions setting in the Power Platform admin center. This feature will be made available in Australia, India, and the United Kingdom starting on December 2, 2024, and fully available by December 12, 2024, and will allow admins in these regions to opt out of this data movement.

Enhanced Data Governance
With the re-introduction of the Move Data Across Regions feature, organizations can strengthen their data governance policies by ensuring that sensitive data remains within specified geographic boundaries. This is particularly crucial for compliance with regional data protection regulations such as GDPR in the UK and similar laws in Australia and India.
- next-steps: Review current data governance policies and align them with the new feature capabilities. Conduct training sessions for IT admins on how to effectively use the Move Data Across Regions setting.
- roles: Compliance Officer, Data Protection Officer, IT Administrator

Improved User Trust and Experience
By allowing admins to opt out of data processing outside their regions, organizations can enhance user trust, as employees and customers may feel more secure knowing their data is not being transferred across borders. This can lead to improved user experience and satisfaction with IT services.
- next-steps: Communicate the new data handling policies to users and stakeholders. Gather feedback on user concerns regarding data privacy and incorporate this feedback into IT service strategies.
- roles: Chief Information Officer, User Experience Manager, IT Support Staff

Cost-Efficient Data Management
By controlling data movement and ensuring it stays within certain regions, organizations can potentially reduce costs associated with data transfer fees and compliance audits related to cross-border data flow. This can also minimize risks associated with data breaches that might incur financial penalties.
- next-steps: Analyze current data transfer costs and compliance expenses. Explore how the new feature can be leveraged to streamline operations and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
