With Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune, you can manage this capability with a policy setting for eligible Microsoft Entra joined or Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices running Windows 11, version 22H2 or higher.

When will this happen:
This experience will be available starting with the September 2025 Windows security update. Note: When Windows quality update support is available in the Windows Autopilot Enrollment Status Page (ESP) at the end of August 2025, you'll see the new quality update setting enabled by default.

Direct effects for Operations**

Increased Deployment Time
Without proper preparation, the deployment of Windows quality updates during OOBE may lead to longer setup times for new devices, as updates will need to be downloaded and installed during the initial setup process.

explanation for non-techies**

Starting in September 2025, when you take a new Windows device out of its box, it will already have the latest quality updates installed. Think of it like buying a new car that already has the latest safety features installed, so you don't have to go back to the dealership to get them added later. This change means that from the moment you start using the device, it will be more secure and up-to-date.

For organizations using Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune, this new feature can be managed through policy settings. It's similar to setting rules for a team in a sports league; you decide how and when updates are applied to ensure everything runs smoothly. This is particularly relevant for devices that are part of the Microsoft Entra network, which is like a club membership for devices, ensuring they meet certain standards and can be managed effectively.

To take advantage of this feature, your devices need to be running Windows 11, version 22H2 or higher, and they should be managed using Intune. It's like making sure your team is using the latest playbook to stay competitive. You'll also need to assign specific profiles and settings to ensure updates are applied correctly during the initial setup of the device.

If your organization uses other management tools, you'll need to check if they can work with this new setup. It's akin to ensuring that all your equipment is compatible with the latest technology before a big game.
