MC550081 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: New Channels Experience Updated September 12, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

A new channels experience in Microsoft Teams has been built with an intuitive design that allows teams to focus and stay on tasks, bring everyone up to speed, and actively engage in real-time. The following features will be rolling out:

The compose box and recent posts will appear at the top of the page. It'll now be much easier to start a new post, keep up with the latest conversations and participate - giving users the confidence that they’ve not missed anything.

Every post is now a true conversation that users can focus on. Users can navigate to a conversation view that makes the discussion more engaging and synchronous, just like a chat. Users can also pop out the post, keep an eye on the discussion, while continuing to work on other topics.

A streamlined information pane will include all the important contextual information like channel’s members and pinned posts so new team members can quickly on-board and for all members to find the information they need, right in the channel.

Pin posts to make it easy for everyone to know what’s important in the channel and quickly reference it.

Simplified badging is making it easier for users to understand when there are new unread activities in teams. In addition, the simplified design helps users focus on the specific channels which requires the most attention, like channels in which the user was @mentioned.

MC677230 (Updated) [Action Required] Transition to Bing Chat Enterprise service plan by late November 2023 As referenced in MC665935 (September 2023), the Bing Chat Enterprise (BCE) service plan has been added to Bing Chat Enterprise-eligible Microsoft 365 licenses. The Bing Chat Enterprise service plan provides more granular management controls to turn Bing Chat Enterprise on or off for specific users or groups.

As a result, the previous Bing Chat Enterprise management controls found on the aka.ms admin pages (aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE) will no longer be available and access to Bing Chat Enterprise for your users will be based on selections made with the Bing Chat Enterprise service plan.

[When this will happen:]

Timing:

Late September 2023: The Bing Chat Enterprise management controls found on the aka.ms admin pages (aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE) will no longer be available. The pages will instead link to documentation on how to manage Bing Chat Enterprise using its service plan.

Late November 2023: Access to Bing Chat Enterprise for your users will be based on selections made with the Bing Chat Enterprise service plan—any previous selections made using the management controls found on the aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE admin pages will no longer apply.

Action Required: If you turned off Bing Chat Enterprise for your organization using the management controls on the aka.ms admin pages and wish for it to remain off, you will need to make the appropriate selections in your service plan before late November 2023.

Updated October 6, 2023: We have updated the content below with additional information to provide guidance on ensuring the appropriate experience is set up for your organization.

As referenced in MC665935 (September 2023), the Bing Chat Enterprise (BCE) service plan has been added to Bing Chat Enterprise-eligible Microsoft 365 licenses. The Bing Chat Enterprise service plan provides more granular management controls to turn Bing Chat Enterprise on or off for specific users or groups.

As a result, access to Bing Chat Enterprise in your organization will transition to recognizing selections made with its service plan. The previous management controls found on the aka.ms admin pages (aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE) will be updated to reflect this transition and help you prepare.

[When this will happen:]

Timing:

Late September 2023: The Bing Chat Enterprise management controls found on the aka.ms admin pages (aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE) will be updated:

If Bing Chat Enterprise is turned on in your organization: The aka.ms admin pages will no longer offer controls to manage Bing Chat Enterprise. Instead, you will be instructed to use the service plan to further manage Bing Chat Enterprise. Please see the page below:

If Bing Chat Enterprise is turned off in your organization: You will only be able to turn on Bing Chat Enterprise using the aka.ms/TurnOnBCE admin page; using the service plan while Bing Chat Enterprise is turned off will not work. Once you turn on Bing Chat Enterprise using the aka.ms/TurnOnBCE admin page, you will be instructed to use the service plan to further manage Bing Chat Enterprise.

Late November 2023: Access to Bing Chat Enterprise for your users will be based on selections made with the Bing Chat Enterprise service plan—any previous selections made using the management controls found on the aka.ms admin pages (aka.ms/TurnOnBCE and aka.ms/TurnOffBCE) will no longer apply.

Action Required: Prepare for this transition by enabling or disabling the Bing Chat Enterprise service plan for your users. If you turned off Bing Chat Enterprise for your organization using the management controls on the aka.ms admin pages and wish for it to remain off, you will need to disable the service plan for your users before late November 2023.

MC678308 (Updated) Loop workspaces will start counting towards tenant storage quotas You don't need to do anything to enable this change. If you want to prevent more Loop workspaces from being created in your tenant, you have the option to proactively disable Loop workspaces in your organization using an admin setting. We recommend you also verify that the Loop admin setting is in the state you desire (i.e. "Enabled", granting access to Loop workspaces, or "Disabled", blocking access).

[How you can see storage consumption of Loop workspaces:]

Admins can connect to SPO PowerShell to enumerate all Loop workspaces and view storage used by individual Loop workspace by following these steps.

1. Run Get-SPOApplication

This command will return the Owning Application Id and Application Name associated with Loop.

2. Run Get-SPOContainer -OwningApplicationId | FT

Input OwningApplicationID for the Loop app obtained in Step #1.

This command will return all the Loop workspaces created in the tenant.

3. Run Get-SPOContainer -OwningApplicationId -Identity

Input OwningApplicationID for the Loop app obtained in Step #1

Input ContainerID of the workspace obtained in Step #2

This command will return StorageUsedInBytes along with other details of the workspace.
