MC338988 (Updated) REST API for On-Premises Mailboxes Preview Ending FAQ:

What API(s) should I use to work with Hybrid Orgs, where some mailboxes are in Exchange Online, and some are on Exchange Server?

You should continue to use Microsoft Graph to work with Exchange Online mailboxes and use EWS to work with Exchange Server (on-premises) mailboxes.

Wasn't EWS going away?

In 2018 we announced EWS in Exchange Online would no longer receive feature updates. But we have no plans currently to change the way EWS works on-premises, so using Microsoft Graph for Exchange Online and EWS for Exchange Server on-premises is the current recommendation.

If you choose to continue using EWS against Exchange Online mailboxes, you should ensure that it uses OAuth (as Basic Authentication is being turned off in Exchange Online). You should also know that it now allows restricting access to mailboxes access through mailbox access policies.

Authenticate an EWS application by using OAuth

Where can I get help on using Microsoft Graph?

One of the best places to start is Use the Microsoft Graph API and one of the best resources you can use to get practical is Use Graph Explorer to try Microsoft Graph APIs

MC546441 (Updated) Licensing Check implementation for Teams DLP You are receiving this message as a reminder to ensure your users who are currently covered with Teams DLP policies have the required Microsoft 365 E5/G5/A5/F5 licenses before June 30 2023. If you already have the mentioned E5 licenses, this message is not relevant to you, and we request you kindly ignore this message.

If your users within the scope of your Teams DLP policies are assigned Microsoft 365 E3/G3/F3/A3 licenses, post June 30, 2023, your existing Teams DLP policies covering these users will become dormant and will not process any Teams messages for data loss prevention. You will not be able to create new Teams DLP policies or make changes to your existing Teams-only DLP policies that cover these users, and these users will not be block/audited while sharing sensitive information over Teams. The existing alerts while the policy was active will continue to be available for triage and remediation but no new alerts will be generated for these users.

If you have a DLP policy that covers multiple locations and one of the locations is Teams, that policy will continue to be active for all other locations except Teams. You will be able to edit such policies and remove Teams as a location in the policy configuration experience.

Please note that your Teams only DLP policies will not be deleted and will continue to be visible in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal for future use in the event that you are able to assign the required licenses to your users.

We recommend you assign the users within the scope of the Teams DLP policies appropriate Microsoft 365 E5/G5/A5/F5 licenses to continue to benefit from Teams DLP.

MC600726 (Updated) Microsoft Lists User Experience Update Users in affected tenants will see Lists feature updates as described in this blog post. These improvements will reach all Lists, except those that have been configured with the following features:

SharePoint Framework extensions

PowerApps forms

Approvals

The Playlist template

Lists that are using these features will not receive the new user experience with this feature rollout. Future rollouts will bring support for Lists that are using these features.

Lists with the new experience will always open inside the Lists app, whether those lists are opened from Lists Home, a sharing link, a direct link, or a link in SharePoint navigation. This means SharePoint site elements like the header and left navigation will not be shown on initial load. There are two ways to show these site elements in a List:

Users can click the “Open in Site” button in the upper right corner of the list. This causes the List to reload inside the parent SharePoint site with those site elements visible on the page.

Admins can set a property on a site collection to make all lists in that site collection always load with the site elements intact. This property is called ListsShowHeaderAndNavigation. This an example PowerShell cmdlet that will set this property for a site given its URL: Set-SPOSite -Identity https://contoso.sharepoint.com/sites/site1 -ListsShowHeaderAndNavigation $true

When this change rolls out, there is one workaround to be aware of. Gallery views that have a Group By specified will be displayed in list mode. This is because of an issue where gallery views and group by are mutually exclusive. To get gallery mode back inside this view, remove the Group By. This issue will be resolved in August and you will no longer need this workaround to see gallery cards properly.

MC624197 Power Automate – End of support for the List Flows as Admin action with the Power Automate Management connector The transition away from List Flows as Admin is being made to minimize future disruptions to customer services.

As the List Flows as Admin action has been deprecated, we will be monitoring usage levels for the deprecated List flows as Admin action and its supporting API. Starting August 2023, we will evaluate the migration progress to List Flows as Admin (V2) action and begin enforcing the deprecation at runtime. This will cause the calls to the backing API of List Flows as Admin to fail at runtime and, in time, impact the older PowerShell cmdlet versions, older Center of Excellence Starter Kit versions, and calls to the deprecated List flows as Admin action.

For additional details and support please see the community forum post Transition to List Flows as Admin V2. The forum post will be monitored for questions.

What actions do I need to take?

Transition to using the List Flows as Admin (V2) action for your new and existing flows. Existing flows can be found with the PowerShell script in Transition to List Flows as Admin V2.

If you have the COE Starter Kit installed, update COE Starter Kit to the latest release.

If you use PowerShell, update the Microsoft.PowerApps.Administration.PowerShell module.

MC400569 (Updated) Graph API for Teams Meetings Transcripts Updated February 9, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

New org-wide application permissions and RSC application permissions have been introduced to make sure that apps can access meeting transcripts for a specific meeting. Resource specific consent (RSC) permissions, specifically enables admins to authorize users to provide consent to apps, so they get specific access to a Teams meeting’s transcripts to which it is installed to, rather than providing them access across the entire tenant.

This message is specifically associated with post-meeting transcripts access for apps - Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 95788 that allows authorized apps to access Teams Meetings transcripts once the meeting is over.

[When will this happen?]

This API will be published to beta in end of July 2022 and to GA in mid-June (previously early April)

MC432474 Major Update to Stream Mobile App We plan to release a completely rebuilt Stream mobile app for iOS and Android. The rebuilt app will give your users seamless access to Stream (Classic) and Stream (on SharePoint) videos as well as Teams meeting recordings. The app also includes a design refresh, a personalized home feed, and a rich video viewing experience.

If your users currently have the Stream mobile app installed on phones or tablets and they have automatic updates turned on, then they will automatically receive the app update when it becomes available to them. Users who have the Stream mobile app who have automatic updates turned off will receive the updated version when they explicitly update the app from the respective app/play store.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 98916

[When this will happen:]

We expect the rebuilt app to begin rolling out in early October and to complete roll out by mid-November.

We plan to issue a forced update by early 2023 for users who have not yet updated. We will send a new Message Center post prior to the forced update.

Note: The rebuilt Stream mobile app will lack certain features that may be critical to some users, such as video recording, uploading and offline downloads. As we continue to build out the revamped mobile app, we expect to add these features in 2023.

MC467901 Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online – Autodiscover Protocol In the coming weeks, we’re going to turn off Basic authentication for the Autodiscover protocol in Exchange Online.

[Timeline and Scope]

As we have communicated multiple times over the past few years and with multiple Message center posts, we began to turn off Basic authentication for several protocols in our worldwide multi-tenant service on October 1, 2022.

Next, we intend to block Basic auth to the Autodiscover service, which is typically used by Outlook, Exchange ActiveSync, and Exchange Web Services apps to help them automatically configure and connect.

Once Basic auth is disabled in your tenant, there’s no reason to keep Autodiscover Basic auth enabled, so we plan on disabling it to further protect your tenant. We will do this during the next few months. If you re-enabled Basic auth in your tenant, or took the option to request more time, we’ll turn off Autodiscover after that extension has expired.

In the coming weeks, we’re going to turn off Basic authentication for the Autodiscover protocol in Exchange Online.

MC496631 (Updated) Shared Device Mode for Outlook Mobile on Android Updated January 31, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Shared device mode is a feature of Azure Active Directory that allows you to use applications that support frontline workers and enable shared device mode on the devices deployed to them.

Your frontline workers can preview Outlook on their shared Android devices until full rollout begins. Enabling frontline worker workflows includes challenges not usually presented by typical information workers. Such challenges can include high turnover rate and less familiarity with an organization's core productivity tools. To empower their frontline workers, organizations are adopting different strategies. Some are adopting a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) strategy in which their employees use business apps on their personal phone, while others provide their employees with shared devices like iPads or Android tablets.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 107506

[When this will happen:]

Public Preview will be rolling out in mid-February (previously mid-January 2023).

General Availability will be rolling out in mid-June 2023 and is expected to be complete by mid-July 2023.

Because mobile devices running iOS or Android were designed for single users, most applications optimize their experience for use by a single user. Part of this optimized experience means enabling single sign-on across applications and keeping users signed in on their device. When a user removes their account from an application, the app typically doesn't consider it a security-related event. Many apps even keep a user's credentials around for quick sign-in.

To allow an organization's employees to use its apps across a pool of devices shared by those employees, developers need to enable the opposite experience. Azure Active Directory will enable the following scenarios with the shared device mode features:

Employees will have the ability to pick a device from the pool and "make it theirs" for the duration of their shift.

At the end of their shift, employees can sign out globally on the device, with all of their personal and company information removed so they can return it to the device pool.

If an employee forgets to sign out, the device will automatically be signed out at the end of their shift and/or after a period of inactivity.

MC498471 (Updated) IPv6 coming to Azure AD Updated May 30, 2023: IPv6 support is rolling out globally across all Azure AD regions, which may have an impact on Azure Active Directory customers. Your users might experience blocks or receive more multi-factor authentication requests than usual. In such cases, we recommend reviewing your tenant’s sign-in logs.

This impact on your tenant could be due to end users connecting from IPv6 ranges that are not configured in your tenant’s Named locations. To address this, please follow the steps outlined on this page to identify IPv6 ranges in your tenant’s environment and configure the necessary settings.

Please share the following guidance with the relevant members of your IT administration team:

IT / Security Admin: Utilize the sign-in report described in the Identifying IPv6 traffic with Azure AD Sign-in activity reports. Use the resulting address list to determine if any IPv6 ranges need to be added to your Azure AD Security Named locations, following the steps provided. It’s also important to collaborate with your internal networking teams to verify IPv6 ranges for your organization, as required.

Network admin: Collaborate with your IT/Security admin to identify known IPv6 ranges in your network infrastructure. Add these ranges to your tenant’s existing Azure AD Named locations by following the steps provided.

We will continue to roll out IPv6 across all Azure AD regions until the end of June 2023.

Earlier, we had announced our plan to bring IPv6 support to Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) enabling our customers to reach the Azure AD services over IPv4, IPv6 or dual stack endpoints. This is just a reminder that we’ll begin introducing IPv6 support into Azure AD services in a phased approach, starting March 31st, 2023.

If your networks don’t support IPv6, you don’t need to take any action to change your configurations or policies. For most customers, IPv4 won't completely disappear from their digital landscape, so we aren't planning to require IPv6 or to de-prioritize IPv4 in any Azure AD features or services. We will continue to share additional guidance on IPv6 enablement in Azure AD at this easy to remember link https://aka.ms/azureadipv6.

With the growing adoption and support of IPv6 across enterprise networks, service providers, and devices, many customers are wondering if their users can continue to access their services and applications from IPv6 clients and IPv6 networks.

Today, we’re excited to announce our plan to bring IPv6 support to Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). This will allow customers to reach the Azure AD services over both IPv4 and IPv6 network protocols (dual stack).

For most customers, IPv4 won't completely disappear from their digital landscape, so we aren't planning to require IPv6 or to de-prioritize IPv4 in any Azure Active Directory features or services.

[When this will happen:]

We’ve been gradually rolling out IPv6 for some of our services for a while. Starting in late March 2023 we'll begin enabling IPv6 for Azure AD authentication. We will introduce IPv6 support into Azure AD authentication in a phased approach, beginning late March 2023.

MC532607 (Updated) Microsoft Authenticator Lite in Outlook Updated May 17, 2023: Today we are starting rollout for Authenticator Lite (in Outlook) to enter GA! The Microsoft managed value of this feature will be changed from ‘disabled’ to ‘enabled’ on June 9th. We have made some changes to the feature configuration, so if you made an update before GA (5/17), please validate that the feature is in the correct state for your tenant prior to June 9th. If you do not wish for this feature to be enabled on June 9th, move the state to ‘disabled’ or set users to include and exclude groups.

Authenticator Lite (in Outlook) is a feature that allows your users to complete multi-factor authentication for their work or school account using Outlook on their iOS or Android device. This feature will be enabled on June 9th for all tenants that have not disabled it. If you do not wish for this feature to be enabled on June 9th, move the state to ‘disabled’ or set user include and exclude groups prior to June 9th.

We always recommend having users download Authenticator to complete their sign-ins, where we can offer the most up-to-date security features. However, users that have not downloaded the app to their device can now approve authentication requests and receive TOTP codes in Outlook, bringing the security of Authenticator to a convenient location.

Admins can enable this feature by leveraging the Authentication Methods policy in Azure Active Directory.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 122289

[When this will happen:]

Rollout of this feature in Outlook will begin in early March, starting public preview. Feature controls are available via MS Graph.

This feature will move to general availability in mid-May 2023

On June 9th, this feature will be enabled for all users by default unless admins have taken action to disable or enable it before then. Any settings configured before June 9th will not be changed.

[What you need to do to prepare:}

Starting mid-March, you can choose to enable this preview for your users from Azure Active Directory. We highly recommend that you enable users that are not already using the Microsoft Authenticator app (or another strong authentication method) for this feature at the start of public preview. This feature brings a security enhancement to those users still using telecom transports to authenticate.

This feature will roll out to tenants in the state ‘Microsoft managed’. For the duration of public preview, leaving the feature set to ‘Microsoft managed’ will have no impact on your users and the feature will remain turned off. In April 2023, we will remove preview tags and enter general availability. At GA, 'Microsoft managed' will remain set to disabled and there will be no tenant impact. On June 9th 2023, if the feature is still set to ‘Microsoft managed’, your tenant will be eligible to be enabled for this feature by Microsoft, as 'Microsoft managed' will be set to enabled. If you do not wish for this feature to be enabled on June 9th, move the state to ‘disabled’ or set users to include and exclude group prior to June 9th.

The new Microsoft Teams desktop app is built on a foundation of speed, performance, and flexibility—saving you time and helping your organization work together more efficiently.

[How will this benefit my organization:]

Our goal for the new Teams app is to make it twice as fast while using half the system resources. We aren’t done optimizing the performance of new Teams, but we are already seeing common scenarios such as app load and meeting join hit that goal, as well as a 50% reduction in memory. We have also observed significant gains in installation time, disk space used, chat and channel switch time, search, and more.

The new Teams app also adds support for organizations that have multiple tenants and users who must manage multiple accounts. Users can be signed into multiple tenants and accounts simultaneously and receive notifications no matter which one is currently in use.

Note: Not all customer segments (Education, Special Cloud, GCC, GCC-High and DoD) and platforms (Mac, VDI, and Web) will receive this update at this time. While the new Teams preview includes much of the same functionality as classic Teams, there are a few features which are not yet available. Visit this page to learn more about what’s currently available and what’s coming up.

[How will I preview the new Teams experience:]

If you are in the public preview program, you will have access to the Try the new Teams toggle. Our preview roll out will begin on March 27, 2023 and expected to complete over the following week.

If you are in the Targeted release program, you will have access to the preview of new Teams starting mid-April. Please refer to MC post MC510331 for Targeted release rollout timelines. Prior to this announcement, the Targeted release provided early access to OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Office for the web, Microsoft 365 admin center, and some components of Exchange Online. Admins and select users in the Targeted release program can be among the first to see the latest Teams innovations.

Note: Admins can choose individuals or the entire organization to receive updates in the Targeted release program.

If you are in production, as an admin you will have the option to opt-in your users by using the Teams update management policy to select which users in your organization can see the toggle and get access to new Teams. Users can use the new Teams and switch back to classic Teams anytime. Our goal is to ensure you are fully empowered to try new Teams in a manner that’s right for you as early as possible.

Visit the admin page, support article or download resources to learn how to get started with previewing the new Teams experience.

MC546939 (Updated) Microsoft Viva: Auto-Categorization Coming to Meeting Category Insights in Viva Insights Updated July 5, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Meeting category insights in the Viva Insights app helps Viva Insights licensed users understand how they are allocating their time across meeting categories. Today, the feature uses the categories manually assigned by users in Outlook and Teams. In an upcoming update, meeting category insights will begin automatically categorizing meetings for users based on meeting size, cadence, and number of people in the meetings. Categories include:

Long meetings – More than 1 hour long and 0-8 invitees

Large meetings – At least 9 invitees and at most 1 hour long

Large and long meetings – At least 9 invitees and more than 1 hour long

Recurring meetings – Meeting series with multiple instances

1:1 meetings – Include 1 other participant

These categories can help users identify meetings that are expensive in terms of time spent, participants included, or both. Using these insights, users can assess whether meetings that fall under this category are a valuable use of time and resources as a step towards doing more with less.

Categorizations will show up in Viva Insights only and will not reflect in Outlook or Teams calendar.

With this update, users who are not currently categorizing in Outlook or Teams will be able to access meeting category insights and begin developing an understanding of how their meeting time is being spent. Users who are already categorizing will receive additional insights about their meeting time allocation according to well-known meeting attributes.

MC550081 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: New Channels Experience Updated June 24, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

A new channels experience in Microsoft Teams has been built with an intuitive design that allows teams to focus and stay on tasks, bring everyone up to speed, and actively engage in real-time. The following features will be rolling out:

The compose box and recent posts will appear at the top of the page. It'll now be much easier to start a new post, keep up with the latest conversations and participate - giving users the confidence that they’ve not missed anything.

Every post is now a true conversation that users can focus on. Users can navigate to a conversation view that makes the discussion more engaging and synchronous, just like a chat. Users can also pop out the post, keep an eye on the discussion, while continuing to work on other topics.

A streamlined information pane will include all the important contextual information like channel’s members and pinned posts so new team members can quickly on-board and for all members to find the information they need, right in the channel.

Pin posts to make it easy for everyone to know what’s important in the channel and quickly reference it.

Simplified badging is making it easier for users to understand when there are new unread activities in teams. In addition, the simplified design helps users focus on the specific channels which requires the most attention, like channels in which the user was @mentioned.

MC560731 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: Updating the Bookings app to the Virtual Appointments app Updated June 8, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience..

Bookings is supported across multiple entry points spanning Web, Teams and Outlook, however there is lack of parity in the feature set across these entry points leading to an inconsistent user experience. This fragmented experience has resulted in high DSAT for customers that has provided feedback to Microsoft to unify and provide feature parity in Bookings across all entry points.

The Bookings experience in Teams will soon be updated to match the web version on https://book.ms, ensuring consistent features across all endpoints. However, certain features like Forms, Queuing & scheduler-initiated SMS reminders for appointments will be available only on the new Virtual Appointments app on Teams.

With the Virtual Appointments app, we are introducing an end-to-end B2C meetings solution that leverages Bookings as the scheduling engine and includes advanced meetings features such as real time meeting state update, chat with attendees in waiting room lobby via Queue view, rich analytics to shows virtual appointment usage trends to drive business outcomes such as no-shows.

With this change, the updated Bookings Teams app will have feature parity and consistent user experience as Bookings web app. Virtual Appointments app will be a superset of the current Bookings Teams app experience embedded within the new app and will include advanced virtual appointments features.

This feature is associated with Microsoft Roadmap ID 120420

[When this will happen:]

Rollout will begin in mid-July (previously late June) and is expected to be complete by late July (previously early July).

MC567472 Microsoft Purview Records Management: Enhancing inherited and auto-applied retention label behavior in Exchange Online We are releasing an enhancement to better align Exchange item lifecycle behaviors with the principles of retention and labeling principles shared with other workloads like SharePoint Online.

This change affects items which have a Microsoft Purview retention label or legacy MRM tag auto-applied or inherited from a parent folder which is then moved to the "Deleted Items" folder either by drag & drop or manual deletion. It does not affect existing behavior for items that are 'permanently' deleted by the user (for example, using the SHIFT+DEL combination), items that have no Microsoft Purview retention labels applied, or items which have a Microsoft Purview retention label or legacy MRM tag applied manually by the user.

The enhancement includes multiple behavior changes which are summarized in the 'How this will affect your organization' section below.

MC498471 (Updated) IPv6 coming to Azure AD We have guidance below which is specifically for Azure AD customers, who use IPv6 addresses and also use Named Locations in their Conditional Access policies.

If you have public IPv6 addresses representing your network, take the actions that are described in the following sections as soon as possible.

Customers who use named locations to identify specific network boundaries in their organization, need to:

Conduct an audit of existing named locations to anticipate potential impact;

Work with your network partner to identify egress IPv6 addresses in use in your environment.;

Review and update existing named locations to include the identified IPv6 ranges.

Customers who use Conditional Access location based policies, to restrict and secure access to their apps from specific networks, need to:

Conduct an audit of existing Conditional Access policies to identify use of named locations as a condition to anticipate potential impact;

Review and update existing Conditional Access location based policies to ensure they continue to meet your organization’s security requirements.

Failing to follow these steps might result in the following impact:

Users of IPv6 addresses may be blocked, depending on your organization's Conditional Access policies and Identity Protection configurations.

False positive detections due to 'Mark as trust location' not being checked for your internal networks and VPN’s can result in users being marked as risky.

We will continue to share additional guidance on IPv6 enablement in Azure AD here: IPv6 Support in Azure Active Directory.
