summary for non-techies**

Microsoft Purview's compliance portal has been updated to extend OCR capabilities to scan for sensitive information within images embedded in various file types, such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and compressed files, enhancing its data protection and compliance capabilities.

Direct effects for Operations**

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Effectiveness
Without proper preparation, the implementation of OCR support may lead to temporary lapses in DLP effectiveness, as existing policies may not immediately recognize or process the newly supported file types, potentially allowing sensitive data to be exposed.
