Summary:
Microsoft Teams will soon auto-detect room audio when a laptop is connected to a room's shared peripheral, suggesting or selecting the room audio option on the pre-join screen. This aims to simplify joining BYOD meeting rooms. Rollout begins early October 2024, with no admin action required before then.

Details:
Coming soon to Microsoft Teams: When users connect their laptop to a room's shared peripheral through USB, Teams will automatically detect the room's audio and recommend the room audio option on the pre-join screen to help streamline a user's entry into a bring your own device (BYOD) meeting room. If a room's audio peripherals are recognized as shared or they are on Microsoft's known BYOD peripherals list, the room audio option will be suggested to users. After users connect the peripheral to their laptop and join a meeting, users will automatically transition to the room's audio if a room's audio peripherals are recognized as shared and are on Microsoft's known BYOD peripherals list* or if the room's audio peripheral is associated** to a room via the Microsoft Teams Pro management portal. A shared peripheral is one that is being used by multiple users, which distinguishes it from a personal peripheral. This message applies to Teams on Windows desktops and Mac desktops.
*Use shared display mode in meeting rooms - Microsoft Support (will be updated with a list of known BYOD peripherals before rollout)
**Bring Your Own Device Rooms in Teams Pro Management portal (will be updated before rollout)
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 413710.
[When this will happen:]
Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early October 2024 and expect to complete by mid-October 2024.
General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-October 2024 and expect to complete by late October 2024.

explanation for non-techies**

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature that will make it easier for users to join meetings in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) rooms. Imagine walking into a conference room with your laptop, and instead of having to figure out which audio device to use, the system automatically suggests or selects the best option for you. This is similar to when you enter a smart home and the lights automatically adjust to your preferred setting.

Here's how it works: when you connect your laptop to a room's shared audio device via USB, Teams will recognize the device and either suggest or automatically select the room's audio for you on the pre-join screen. This is like plugging your phone into a car and having the car's audio system automatically take over, so you don't have to fiddle with settings to play your music.

This feature is particularly useful in office environments where multiple people use the same equipment. If the room's audio device is on Microsoft's list of known BYOD peripherals or is recognized as shared, Teams will make the transition to room audio seamless. It's like having a universal remote that knows which TV channel you want to watch based on the time of day.

For users working from home, there will be no change. But for those in the office, this update will simplify the process of joining meetings, reducing the need for manual adjustments. The rollout will begin in October 2024, and no action is required from administrators before then. This change is automatic, much like how software updates happen on your smartphone without you needing to do anything.

Overall, this update aims to enhance the BYOD meeting room experience by making it more intuitive and user-friendly, similar to how smart technology in homes and cars aims to make everyday tasks more convenient.
