Summary:
Starting June 30th, 2024, Viva Engage will retire inline video streaming and Office file editing in external networks. Videos will not play in-browser and must be downloaded, while Office files cannot be edited in-browser but require thread recreation for updates. Native Mode networks are unaffected. Users should be informed, and administrators are advised to upgrade to Native Mode.
Details:
Starting June 30th 2024, there will be changes to the behavior of videos and Office files (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio files) that are shared in Viva Engage. These changes affect only external networks and communities not connected to Microsoft 365 groups, which are classic experiences leveraging Azure for file storage. These changes do not affect native mode networks.
Azure Media Services will no longer be used to encode video. Therefore, videos uploaded starting June 30th will be unencoded files and will not play in the browser. Unencoded videos can be watched by downloading to your device and viewing on the device.
Additionally, Office files can no longer be edited in place, in the browser. If a file attached to a thread needs to be edited, the thread’s creator can delete the thread and create a new thread with the updated file.
[When this will happen:]
We will implement these changes June 30th, 2024.
