Summary:
OneDrive sync on Windows will support syncing up to 1 million items per device starting in Public Preview in late April 2026, benefiting users with large libraries. Devices not meeting requirements will remain at the 300,000-item limit. No disruption is expected, and no action is needed unless participating in the preview.

Details:
[Introduction]
OneDrive sync on Windows will support syncing up to 1 million items per sync instance per device. This increase is intended to help organizations with large OneDrive and SharePoint libraries sync more content reliably across devices. The capability is planned to be available first in Public Preview (requires the Insiders ring) and later in General Availability.
Devices that do not meet the minimum hardware and configuration requirements will continue to sync at the existing 300,000-item supported limit without disruption.
[When this will happen]
Public Preview: We will begin rolling out in late April 2026 and expect to complete by late April 2026.

Increased Sync Limit
If the change is implemented without preparation, users may experience confusion or frustration if they attempt to sync more than 300,000 items on devices that do not meet the new requirements, leading to potential disruptions in their workflow.

Performance Issues
Without proper preparation, users syncing large libraries may face performance issues, especially if they are using read-only files or accounts under legal hold, which could lead to delays in accessing necessary documents.
