Summary:
Starting mid-November 2025, Viva Insights will disable Behavioral insights by default for new and some existing customers, focusing on Copilot and AI agent analytics. Admins can enable or disable Behavioral insights via VFAM or PowerShell. Behavioral insights provide deeper organizational work patterns but are separate from AI usage data.
Details:
[Introduction]
We're launching a new Viva Insights experience focused solely on Microsoft Copilot and AI agent analytics in the Copilot Analytics Viva Insights web app. By default, Behavioral insights will be disabled for all new customers, and existing customers who haven't previously accessed them. Behavioral insights do not measure Copilot or AI agent usage but provide a deeper understanding of how an organization gets work done such as focus, learning, network, collaboration, and meetings etc. The AI or Viva Insights (VI) admin can enable Behavioral insights via Viva Feature Access Management (VFAM) User Experience or PowerShell. More details about what's included in Behavioral insights are provided in the table below.
[When this will happen:]
Mid-October 2025: VFAM policy and PowerShell cmdlet available to all customers.
Mid-November 2025: Experience changes begin rolling out to all customers.

Starting in mid-November 2025, Microsoft is making changes to the Viva Insights web app, focusing on analytics related to Microsoft Copilot and AI agents. This means that for new customers and some existing ones, Behavioral insights will be turned off by default. Think of it like a car with a new GPS system. The car (Viva Insights) will now focus more on the GPS (Copilot and AI analytics) rather than the radio (Behavioral insights), which provides information about the journey itself, like how often you stop or take detours.
Admins have the option to turn Behavioral insights back on if needed, using tools like VFAM or PowerShell. This is similar to choosing to listen to the radio while using the GPS. Behavioral insights give a deeper look into how work is done within an organization, such as focusing on meetings and collaboration, but it doesn’t track how often the GPS is used.
For those already using Viva Insights before October 15th, 2025, Behavioral insights will only be disabled if no analyst has been assigned or if no reports have been created since May 2025. For new users after this date, Behavioral insights will start off disabled.
Admins, analysts, and leaders should be informed about these changes, as they will affect the types of reports and data available. It's like updating the user manual for the car to reflect the new GPS-focused features, ensuring everyone knows how to use the new system effectively.
This change doesn’t affect other data from Viva Skills, Learning, or Microsoft 365. If your organization needs Behavioral insights, an analyst must be assigned to manage and utilize this data. Admins can control these settings at any time, ensuring the organization’s needs are met, much like a car owner deciding whether to use the GPS or the radio based on their journey.
