Introduction
To enhance collaborative access to SharePoint-based knowledge, we're introducing SharePoint agents in Microsoft Teams Channels. These agents allow users to interact with SharePoint-based knowledge through simple @mentions, allowing quick access to summaries, answers, and file discovery-without leaving the Teams environment. This builds on existing functionality in group chats and meetings, now with the added benefit of persistent visibility and accessibility in channels. This feature will be available on all web and desktop clients (Windows and macOS). A limited set of functionality will also be available on mobile clients.

Imagine you're at a library, and you have a personal assistant who knows exactly where every book is located and can quickly summarize the contents for you. This assistant saves you time and effort, allowing you to focus on what you need without wandering through the aisles. In the digital workplace, SharePoint agents in Microsoft Teams Channels function similarly. They act as your virtual assistant, enabling you to access and summarize SharePoint content directly within Teams using simple @mentions.

This new feature is designed to make collaboration more efficient by keeping everything in one place. Just like you wouldn't want to leave the library to find information in another building, you don't have to leave Teams to get the SharePoint content you need. This seamless integration means you can stay focused on your tasks without switching between different platforms.

Rolling out globally from late August to mid-September 2025, this feature will be available by default, requiring no additional setup or configuration changes. It's like getting a new tool in your toolkit without having to assemble it yourself. All existing governance and compliance controls remain intact, ensuring that your organization's policies are respected.

To prepare, consider reviewing your organization's SharePoint usage policies and informing your team about this new capability. Think of it as a new section in the library; you want everyone to know it's there and how to use it effectively. No new compliance considerations have been identified, but it's always wise to review these as they apply to your organization.

In summary, SharePoint agents in Teams Channels are set to enhance productivity by making it easier to access and summarize organizational knowledge within the familiar environment of Teams. It's like having a knowledgeable assistant at your fingertips, ready to help you navigate the vast resources of your digital library.
