Summary:
Yammer will no longer support multiple networks within a single tenant, aligning with Microsoft 365 boundaries. Starting May 1, 2023, through March 2025, secondary networks will be consolidated into the primary network, resulting in the loss of groups and data from secondary networks. Customers are advised to export data and can choose to consolidate networks themselves or allow Microsoft to handle it. Networks will then be upgraded to Native Mode.

Updated January 15, 2025: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.
Yammer is committed to strengthening the alignment of Yammer to Microsoft 365. This means we will no longer support tenants having more than one non-external Yammer network. This change will ensure Yammer networks have the same organizational boundaries as their corresponding Microsoft 365 tenants.
Why is this happening now?
Integrating Yammer more fully into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem has been a multi-year effort. New 1:many configurations have not been permitted since October 2018. All new Yammer networks provisioned after January 2020 have been created in Native Mode. In September 2022, the enforcement of Native Mode was announced. Automated network consolidation is an important prerequisite to reaching Native Mode and gaining access to broader safety, security, and compliance features.
[When this will happen:]
Starting on May 1, 2023 and continuing through early March 2025 (previously January 1). You are welcome to initiate network consolidation on your own at any time before or after May 1, 2023.

Data Management and Migration Planning
As multiple Yammer networks are being consolidated, there is an opportunity to implement a robust data management strategy. This includes performing a full data export of secondary networks to ensure no critical information is lost during the consolidation process. A well-planned migration can also streamline user experience by ensuring that relevant data is accessible post-consolidation.
- next-steps: 1. Designate a project team to oversee the data export and migration process. 2. Utilize the Yammer migration tool to export data from secondary networks. 3. Create a timeline for data export and user migration to minimize disruption.
- roles: IT Administrators, Data Analysts, Project Managers
- references: https://docs.microsoft.com/yammer/manage-security-and-compliance/export-yammer-enterprise-data, https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/yammer-blog/non-native-and-hybrid-yammer-networks-are-being-upgraded/ba-p/3612915

User Training and Support
With the transition to a single Yammer network, users may face challenges adapting to the new environment. Offering training sessions and resources can improve user experience and ensure that employees understand how to utilize the new features and functionalities available in Native Mode.
- next-steps: 1. Develop a training program tailored to different user roles within the organization. 2. Schedule training sessions and create supporting materials (e.g., guides, FAQs). 3. Gather feedback post-training to assess effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary.
- roles: HR Managers, Training Coordinators, IT Support Staff

Enhanced Compliance and Security Features
The upgrade to Native Mode will provide access to improved compliance and security features through Microsoft Purview. Organizations can leverage these features to enhance data governance and ensure that sensitive information is adequately protected, which can also reduce risks associated with data breaches.
- next-steps: 1. Review the compliance and security features available in Native Mode. 2. Assess current compliance policies and identify areas for improvement. 3. Implement necessary changes to policies and procedures to align with the new features.
- roles: Compliance Officers, IT Security Managers, Legal Advisors
