Summary:

Details:
Updated September 17, 2025: After further review, this has been delayed to a later date. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Introducing a new feature that will bring interactive agents into Microsoft Teams meetings and 1-on-1 calls. Users will be able to engage with agents as a group or privately, with zero-state prompts and history support for seamless interactions. Before this rollout, only agents built on Microsoft Copilot can support sessions, which means they can remember the context of previous interactions in the same session, for more relevant responses. Custom agents do not yet have session support.
After this rollout, all agents from Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Microsoft Copilot Studio will be available for users in their meetings and calls. This feature will allow developers to invite colleagues to give feedback and securely test agents, without affecting sensitive data or production channels.
A Microsoft 365 Copilot license or a Microsoft 365 license is required to use this feature. As part of the Microsoft 365 SKUs, if users have access to declarative agents in Microsoft Copilot Chat, agents are available in their meetings and calls. No license is required for custom engine agents.

explanation for non-techies**

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature that will allow users to interact with virtual agents during meetings and calls. Think of these agents as digital assistants that can help you and your team by providing information or answering questions in real-time. Imagine having a knowledgeable assistant in the room who can quickly provide relevant data or help facilitate the meeting, without needing to pause the conversation or look up information yourself.

These agents are built on Microsoft Copilot, which means they have the ability to remember the context of previous interactions during the same session. This is similar to having a conversation with someone who remembers what you talked about earlier, making the interaction more seamless and efficient. However, it's important to note that custom agents, which are not built on Copilot, currently do not have this memory feature.

Once this feature is rolled out, users will be able to access these agents easily during their meetings. They can do this by using simple commands, much like how you might call out to a colleague for assistance. Additionally, these agents can be used privately or shared with the entire group, depending on the needs of the meeting.

For those in charge of managing Teams within an organization, there's no need to take any action to enable this feature. It will be automatically available once the rollout is complete. However, admins can choose to pre-pin certain agents to make them more accessible for users, ensuring that the most relevant tools are at their fingertips.

This new feature is designed to enhance collaboration and productivity by making it easier to access information and support during meetings. It’s like having a team of digital helpers ready to assist, allowing users to focus more on the discussion and less on the logistics of finding information.
