Microsoft Edge for Business is rolling out a new feature called the security connector framework. Think of this framework like a universal adapter for your security tools. Just as a travel adapter allows you to plug in your devices anywhere in the world, this framework lets you connect Microsoft Edge to various security solutions seamlessly. This means you can use Edge with your existing security tools without needing to purchase additional software, although some partners might have their own licensing fees.
Starting in late April 2025, you’ll be able to connect Edge to tools from well-known security providers like Cisco Duo, CrowdStrike, and Splunk, among others. This is akin to adding new apps to your smartphone; once installed, they work together to enhance your device's functionality. In this case, the connectors will enhance Edge’s security capabilities.
Admins can set up these connectors through the Microsoft 365 admin center, much like adjusting settings on your phone to personalize it. The connectors will be ready to use, and you can manage them according to your organization's needs. This means you can decide which security features to activate, similar to choosing which apps to keep on your phone.
For example, with device trust connectors, you can ensure that only trusted devices access your business applications via Edge. This is like having a security guard at the entrance of a building, allowing only authorized personnel to enter. Similarly, reporting connectors will give you a comprehensive view of security events, acting like a dashboard in a car that shows you everything happening under the hood.
Data loss prevention connectors will help monitor and prevent sensitive information from being mishandled in Edge, similar to a bank vault that keeps valuable items secure. These connectors ensure that data is not printed, pasted, or uploaded without proper authorization.
To take advantage of these features, you’ll need Microsoft Edge version 135. It's important to review your current setup to see how these changes might affect your organization and inform your team about the updates. This is like updating your software to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.
