Details:
We're expanding the capability to require explicit consent for recording and transcription to include 1:1 calls in Microsoft Teams. A new setting in the Teams Calling policy allows admins to enforce this requirement before recording or transcription can begin. When a user with the policy initiates recording, transcription, or both in a 1:1 call, the other participant is automatically muted, with their camera and content sharing turned off. The participant will see a prompt asking whether they consent to be included in the recording and transcription.

Imagine you're in a meeting room with just one other person. You want to record the conversation to make sure you remember everything that was discussed. However, before you hit the record button on your device, you need to ask the other person if they're okay with being recorded. If they agree, you can proceed. If not, you respect their decision and don't record.
This is similar to a new feature in Microsoft Teams for 1:1 calls. Previously, when you wanted to record or transcribe a call, it was simpler to start the process. Now, there's an extra step to ensure both parties are comfortable with being recorded. When someone with this new policy setting tries to record or transcribe a call, the other person is automatically muted, and their camera and content sharing are turned off. They will see a message asking if they agree to the recording or transcription. This is like pausing the conversation to make sure everyone is on the same page before continuing.
This change is about ensuring transparency and consent, much like asking for permission before taking notes in a face-to-face meeting. It gives everyone involved a clear choice and helps maintain trust and respect in digital communications. Just as you would want to know if someone is writing down your words in a meeting, this feature ensures that everyone is aware and agrees before a digital record is made.
