MC536885 (Updated) Changes in Normalization No one gets impacted immediately. We are letting you know to make you prepare for this change. If you have dial plan policies that has a pattern to match the phone number that starts with plus sign (+) or you rely on the number that starts with plus sign (+) to be translated, you have to adjust your dial plan policies. There is no immediate impact. We are letting you know, so you can prepare for this change. If you are relying on dial plan policies to translate numbers dialed starting with a +, those rules will no longer work. You will need to instruct your end users to either dial the correct E.164 number starting with a +, or dial numbers without a + to match dial plan policies. N/A

MC468492 (Updated) Authenticator number matching to be enabled for all Microsoft Authenticator users Updated March 16, 2023: We have updated the timing of this change, below. Thank you for your patience.

Microsoft Authenticator app’s number matching feature has been Generally Available since Nov 2022! If you have not already leveraged the rollout controls (via Azure Portal Admin UX and MSGraph APIs) to smoothly deploy number matching for users of Microsoft Authenticator push notifications, we highly encourage you to do so. We had previously announced that we will remove the admin controls and enforce the number match experience tenant-wide for all users of Microsoft Authenticator push notifications starting February 27, 2023. After listening to customers, we will extend the availability of the rollout controls for a few more weeks. Organizations can continue to use the existing rollout controls until May 8, 2023, to deploy number matching in their organizations. Microsoft services will start enforcing the number matching experience for all users of Microsoft Authenticator push notifications after May 8th, 2023. We will also remove the rollout controls for number matching after that date.

Please note that we have changed the expected behavior for NPS extension to be even more admin friendly. NPS versions 1.2.2216.1+ will be released once Microsoft starts to enable number matching for all Authenticator users. These NPS versions will automatically prefer OTP based sign-ins over traditional push notifications with the Authenticator app. An admin can choose to disable this behavior and fallback to traditional push notifications with Approve/Deny by setting the registry key OVERRIDE_NUMBER_MATCHING_WITH_OTP Value = FALSE. Previous NPS extension versions will not automatically switch Authenticator push notification authentications to OTP based authentications. Please refer to the NPS extension section of the number match documentation for further information.

[When this will happen:]

Beginning in May 2023.

Updated June 8, 2023: Number matching is now deployed and enabled for all users of the Microsoft Authenticator app!

Additionally, due a change in the Microsoft Authenticator Authentication method policy, the feature configuration of Application Context and Location Context in tenants may have been impacted. End users were not impacted by this change, but if you made an update to these settings before 5/17 to set them to "disabled", please review your policy. If the policy has been reset to "default" and you'd like to explicitly set the state to be "disabled", you can leverage the UX or MS Graph API to do so. Note: Tenants who have the policy set to "enabled" were not affected by the change.

MC536885 (Updated) Changes in Normalization Stopping normalization on number that starts with plus sign (+)

Normalization in Microsoft Teams was not designed to do normalization when the phone number starts with plus sign (+) as documented, but we've never enforced this in the Teams desktop or Web client. We are planning to enforce this in the future but for now we recommend avoiding this pattern.

We are making this change to align with our Calling Service, other Teams services, Azure Communication Services SDKs, and other Microsoft services. Numbers that start with a plus sign (+) will not pass through any normalization rules.

Translated numbers that do not start with a plus sign (+), will pass through normalization rules more than once. Please see :https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/create-and-manage-dial-plans for more information

MC546939 (Updated) Microsoft Viva: Auto-Categorization Coming to Meeting Category Insights in Viva Insights Meeting category insights in the Viva Insights app helps Viva Insights licensed users understand how they are allocating their time across meeting categories. Today, the feature uses the categories manually assigned by users in Outlook and Teams. In an upcoming update, meeting category insights will begin automatically categorizing meetings for users based on meeting size, cadence, and number of people in the meetings. Categories include:

Long meetings – More than 1 hour long and 0-8 invitees

Large meetings – At least 9 invitees and at most 1 hour long

Large and long meetings – At least 9 invitees and more than 1 hour long

Recurring meetings – Meeting series with multiple instances

1:1 meetings – Include 1 other participant

These categories can help users identify meetings that are expensive in terms of time spent, participants included, or both. Using these insights, users can assess whether meetings that fall under this category are a valuable use of time and resources as a step towards doing more with less.

Categorizations will show up in Viva Insights only and will not reflect in Outlook or Teams calendar.

With this update, users who are not currently categorizing in Outlook or Teams will be able to access meeting category insights and begin developing an understanding of how their meeting time is being spent. Users who are already categorizing will receive additional insights about their meeting time allocation according to well-known meeting attributes.

MC555189 (Updated) New Microsoft Teams Continuous Web Logs Extend the Window for Troubleshooting Debug log files are automatically produced by the Microsoft Teams client, which can aid in monitoring and troubleshooting Teams. Also known as “Web logs”, Debug logs have historically been constrained by a limited memory buffer. If not collected by the user immediately after an issue occurs, the “signature” of the issue may not be present in the Debug logs, making it more difficult to resolve recent and future issues.

This is being addressed with Continuous Web Logs (CWL). With CWL enabled, once the in-memory buffer reaches the limit, log lines will be saved to a file on user's machine extending the log capturing window up to one business day for an average user, providing a significantly larger window for troubleshooting.

CWL is available to all tenants, but currently disabled by default. Teams' admins are able to turn it on using either of these methods:

Assigning TeamsMediaLoggingPolicy via PowerShell cmdlets

Setting a Feature Flag enableContinuousWebClientLogging to True. This can be done with assistance from Microsoft. As a temp solution, {enableContinuousWebClientLogging: true} can be added to hooks.json locally for the user. This will override the ECS setting for the user and enable CWL.

Soon, Teams admins will have an additional option to enable CWL from the Teams admin center.

[When this will happen:]

On June 1, 2023, CWL will become the default for Teams users with the following desktop system specifications:

Intel Core i3 and Core i5 (generation 10 or higher), Core i7 and Core i9 (any generation) excluding the following series: U, Y, G1-G7, UE, UL, M, QM

Intel Xeon

AMD Ryzen 5, 7, 9 and TR models excluding U series

Apple Silicon (all series of M1 and M2 chips)

Admins may use the methods listed above to enable CWL for Teams users with lesser system specifications. CWL will not be enabled by default for all machines to avoid the potential for user impact on lower-end devices.

MC560731 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: Updating the Bookings app to the Virtual Appointments app Updated June 2, 2023: We have updated this message to ensure visibility.

Bookings is supported across multiple entry points spanning Web, Teams and Outlook, however there is lack of parity in the feature set across these entry points leading to an inconsistent user experience. This fragmented experience has resulted in high DSAT for customers that has provided feedback to Microsoft to unify and provide feature parity in Bookings across all entry points.

The Bookings experience in Teams will soon be updated to match the web version on https://book.ms, ensuring consistent features across all endpoints. However, certain features like Forms, Queuing & scheduler-initiated SMS reminders for appointments will be available only on the new Virtual Appointments app on Teams.

With the Virtual Appointments app, we are introducing an end-to-end B2C meetings solution that leverages Bookings as the scheduling engine and includes advanced meetings features such as real time meeting state update, chat with attendees in waiting room lobby via Queue view, rich analytics to shows virtual appointment usage trends to drive business outcomes such as no-shows.

With this change, the updated Bookings Teams app will have feature parity and consistent user experience as Bookings web app. Virtual Appointments app will be a superset of the current Bookings Teams app experience embedded within the new app and will include advanced virtual appointments features.

This feature is associated with Microsoft Roadmap ID 120420

MC565156 (Updated) Teams Room Windows: Simplified Device Registration Process for Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal We are pleased to announce an enhancement to the device registration process for Windows-based Teams Rooms devices on the Pro Management portal, aimed at making it more convenient for IT admins.

With the upcoming Teams Rooms app update (v. 4.17) scheduled for release by the end of June 2023, we have streamlined the registration process for Windows-based Teams Rooms devices. IT admins will no longer need to manually download and install the Pro Management agent on each device.

Instead, the Pro Management agent will be automatically downloaded and installed onto the Windows-based Teams Rooms devices as part of the Teams Rooms app update. This improvement simplifies the agent deployment and device enrollment tasks for IT admins, reducing their workload.

Once the Pro Management agent is successfully installed and connected, devices with the Teams Rooms Pro license will be automatically enrolled and visible on the Pro Management portal. This eliminates the need for any additional user action, making the process more efficient.

We understand the importance of a seamless and hassle-free device registration experience for IT admins. This update aims to improve the overall management process and reduce friction when connecting Windows-based Teams Rooms devices to the Pro Management portal.

Stay tuned for the upcoming Teams Rooms app update (v. 4.17) to take advantage of the simplified device registration process and enhance your device management capabilities with the Pro Management service.

MC565271 (Updated) System preferred MFA method is Generally Available In today's landscape, organizations and users utilize various authentication methods with varying levels of security. Unfortunately, users often select less secure MFA methods, even when more secure options are available. This may be due to convenience, lack of awareness, or technical limitations.

To encourage the use of the strongest available method, we are introducing system-preferred authentication for MFA. This system prompts users to sign in with the most secure method they've registered and the one that's enabled by admin policy. This transition from choosing a default method to always using the most secure method will promote better security practices. If users can't use the prompted method, they can choose an alternative MFA method.

We will begin rolling out in mid-July and expect to complete by mid-August.

MC496248 (Updated) Wiki retirement and the future of note taking in Teams Channels We urge users to export their channel wikis to OneNote once it is available.

If your organization has not enabled OneNote you can review this documentation:

Deployment guide for OneNote

[FAQs:]

Why is Teams retiring wiki?

Our users’ needs for note taking are evolving every day and the current capabilities & infrastructure of Wiki will not be able to cater to those needs in future. We understand that moving away from wiki is a difficult change and we want to help our users throughout the changes.

How can I take notes in channels after this change?

New channels will now come with a OneNote notebook (M365 brand for note taking). OneNote brings goodness of richer formatting, better organization, search within OneNote app and keeps the experience consistent across M365.

When & how are we retiring Wiki?

Stage 1 – (Timeline – early March 2023) Users won't be able to create new wikis, but they can continue to access (read/write) their existing wiki. Users also have the option to export their content to OneNote. Once users export their content to OneNote, the Wiki is available as read only.

After exporting, each wiki in a channel appears as separate section in OneNote and each Wiki page will be a separate page in OneNote.

Stage 2 – (Timeline – Mid CY23) Wiki tab in channel will not be supported; users will be easily able access (read/write) content in Wiki app. Users can also export their content to OneNote.

Stage 3 – (Timeline – Jan 2024) Wikis tab and wiki App wouldn't be able to accessible in Teams and users wouldn't be able to export. Users can download their wiki files from SharePoint.

What happens to my existing data?

Your data is accessible from SharePoint as per retention policy even after Wiki is deprecated. You can download wiki content from SharePoint.

Does end user need to export wiki one by one or in bulk?

End users will have to export wikis one by one per Wiki tab. If there are more than wiki tabs in a channel, then users will have to export them separately. Users can export their wiki by visiting Wiki tab.

Who can export Wiki to Notes?

Any team member who has access to add/remove tab in a channel can export their Wiki.

Is there a bulk export option available at tenant level?

No, users can export their wikis as per their convenience.

Known limitation:

OneNote notes only work in Default (Light) and High contrast mode.
