MC279627 | (Updated) Refreshed Microsoft Whiteboard client experience coming soon | Updated November 18, 2021: During our gradual rollout of the new Whiteboard for Windows app, we learned that users love the new features but need some of the old ones back. We've also heard that some customers need more time before we automatically require transitioning new boards in OneDrive for Business (ODB) and more flexibility for rolling out the new unified Whiteboard for Windows app. So today, we're doing two things: We're pausing the Windows app rollout. Any users already upgraded will be automatically moved back to the previous version via automatic Store update. All the new Whiteboard features such as templates remain available in Teams, Web and mobile. For the client, we're addressing top requests for the new Windows app and will start the automatic store rollout in mid-February, completing by mid-March. Microsoft Whiteboard is being updated to provide a new, unified experience across all devices, whether you’re on a large screen or a mobile phone. We’ve already shipped new, highly requested features to our web app, Android app and Teams clients, and there’s more on the way. As part of this new experience, we will also be updating our native applications on Windows 10, Surface Hub and iOS to provide a uniform experience across all devices. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 72196, 82093, and 82094. |
Updated January 25, 2022: We have updated the content to provide additional details on this rollout. Whiteboard is creating a unified experience across devices. Soon, you’ll have the same experience no matter which device you are using Whiteboard on, and all whiteboards will be created in OneDrive for Business. When are these changes happening?: The automatic store rollout will begin in mid-February, completing by mid-March. The switch to ODB as the default for new content will begin in mid-March, completing by late-April. How can I update the Whiteboard application on Windows ahead of time?: To get early access to the new Whiteboard app for Windows prior to the automatic update, we have two options available. Option 1: Install Whiteboard using Intune: Download the new Whiteboard app here. You can deploy this package to users’ devices using Intune. Follow the steps in this article Enable Microsoft Whiteboard for your organization, in the section “How to Deploy the Windows Application”. Note that you will need to continue to deploy updated versions of the application using this process. Option 2: Provide a separate version for users to try. Download the beta version from here: Your users can download a new trial version of the Whiteboard app from here. This will install a standalone trial version that they can use, without impacting the current application. Once the automatic update begins, users should uninstall the trial version. How can I update the Whiteboard application on Surface Hub ahead of time?: To get early access to the new Whiteboard app for Surface Hub prior to the automatic update, you can download the application here and install it using this article Set the Microsoft Whiteboard app on Surface Hub - Microsoft Tech Community. How can I start using OneDrive for Business storage ahead of time?: To get early access to Whiteboard on OneDrive for Business, you can enable it in the Office 365 admin portal following the steps in this article Microsoft Whiteboard on OneDrive for Business Opt-In. This article outlines which clients are currently supported. Default on will begin in late March and complete by mid-April. What are the primary differences between the new and old experiences?: Please reference this article for a list of current differences, anticipated features to be added by the time the applications unify, as well as additional planned features coming in 2022: New Whiteboard experience and features coming to you Microsoft Whiteboard is being updated to provide a new, unified experience across all devices, whether you’re on a large screen or a mobile phone. MC280914 | (Updated) Records Management–Announcing public preview of adaptive policy scopes for retention and label policies | Updated December 02, 2021: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience. This new feature (preview), Adaptive policy scopes, will allow data administrators to scope retention policies and retention label policies to a dynamic set of users, SharePoint sites, or Microsoft 365 Groups. This is enabled by using the properties or attributes associated with these locations. Adaptive policy scopes work with all locations, including Exchange mailboxes, Microsoft 365 Groups, SharePoint sites, OneDrive accounts, Teams chats, channel messages (including private channels), and Yammer user and community messages. Before this release, admins had to manually manage what was included in each policy by creating multiple custom scripts to add or remove locations from a policy. Adaptive policy scopes will automatically add and remove applicable locations to a policy as properties change for the associated user, site, or group. Additionally, adaptive policy scopes are not subject to previous per-policy limits of only including 100 sites or 1000 mailboxes per policy which often caused duplicate policies in large organizations. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 70578. [When this will happen:] Public preview: will begin rolling out in mid-October (previously early September) and be complete by the end of October (previously mid-October). Standard release: will begin rolling out in mid-January (previously mid-November) and be complete by mid-February (previously end of December). |
